We had a great time at the DuBose Conference Center for our 2012 Tri-Diocesan gathering! The opening Eucharist was held at Otey Parish, Sewanee; preacher wasThe Rt. Rev. George D. Young III, East Tennessee.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
The Rev. Dr. Jo Bailey Wells, provided some solid theological underpinnings for mission work, both at home and abroad. She is a priest of the Church of England and directs and teachers in Anglican Studies at Duke Divinity School. The conference focus coincides precisely with her areas of expertise, especially in relation to Old Testament studies. She also enjoys devotional writing, seeking to bring the fruits of biblical scholarship to a wider audience within the Church. MUSICIAN
Canon Organist-Choirmaster Scott Elsholz from St. Mary's Cathedral, Memphis led us in music . Scott has impressive academic credentials but he is also young, fun, lively, creative and enormously talented. He has a passion for empowering the people’s song and helping individuals and parishes discover their own unique song. Equally comfortable with Bach and bluegrass, Scott constantly seeks ways to enrich our worship through music from many styles and traditions. He currently lives in Memphis with his wife Melissa, daughter Clarabella, and terrier-mix dog Buxy. "In Scott, one senses God's creative power and the fun-loving spirit of the Almighty." Also on the schedule were sessions for networking, exchanging ideas, and some just-for-fun activities. There was the perennial favorite "Conversation With the Bishops" on Friday evening. The Province IV United Thank Offering Coordinator, Georgie White, Diocese of Atlanta and Betty Johnson, Episcopal Relief & Development Representative, West Tennessee, explained how these wonderful organizations complement each other. The closing Eucharist on Sunday morning was a joyful service of music, thanksgiving and celebration.
